The House of Mouse revealed Thursday that the hit Japanese original has been renewed for a second season, dropping a teaser trailer that offers a peak at what\u2019s to come (see it below).<\/p>\n<p>The first season of <em>Gannibal<\/em> was a pillar title for Disney+\u2019s push into Japanese live-action series production. Following its release in December 2022, it became the streaming service\u2019s most-watched locally produced original series in Japan ever. <em>Gannibal<\/em>\u2018s star, Yuya Yagira, also earned a best actor nomination at the Busan International Film Festival\u2019s upcoming Asia Contents Awards &amp; Global OTT Awards. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tStarring some of the biggest names in the Japanese screen industry,<em> Gannibal<\/em>\u2018s second season will see the return of Yagira as police officer Daigo Agawa; Show Kasamatsu as Keisuke Goto, the head of the Goto family; and Riho Yoshioka as Yuki Agawa, Daigo\u2019s strong and supportive wife.<\/p>\n<p>Set in a fictional Japanese village, season one of\u00a0<em>Gannibal<\/em>\u00a0followed recently relocated police officer Daigo as he arrived at his new job and home as a broken man. Wrestling with his guilt over an event that traumatized his daughter, things started off promisingly for the new village police officer before a series of alarming events quickly led Daigo to the horrifying realization that something was deeply wrong with the local villagers and the mysterious Goto family who seem to run the town. Thrown into a hostile environment with suspense around every corner, season one took audiences on an emotional rollercoaster before leaving them on a heart-stopping cliffhanger.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t<br \/>Season two will again be directed by Shinzo Katayama, with each episode written by Oscar-nominated screenwriter Takamasa Oe (Ryusuke Hamaguchi\u2019s <em>Drive My Car<\/em>) and produced by Teruhisa Yamamoto (<em>Drive My Car<\/em>\u2018s Oscar-nomiated producer).
